STEM Opportunity
If you are interested in the space program, robotics, engineering, or other STEM topics, please come to a free screening of the film "I Want to be an Astronaut" at the Howmet Playhouse in Whitehall at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 14th. Michigan native, David Ruck, will be screening his film, as well as participating in a Q & A--along with Alcoa engineers and a former space shuttle technician--about STEM careers, the future of the space program, and the need for the public to support and engage in conversations related to STEM education and the public space program.

Assignment #1 Find a Rock
During Unit 2: Planet Rock, we will be investigating rocks. For this unit, you will need to find a rock to study. I'm giving you the assignment at the beginning of the year so that you won't have to hunt for one when there is snow cover.
Happy hunting!
- The rock must be unknown to you. In other words, don't bring in a rock that you know the scientific name of.
- The rock must be big enough to test: examine, observe, scratch, apply solutions too.
- The rock must be small enough to fit into an egg carton, i.e.: no bigger than the palm of your hand.
- The rock must be interesting to you.
- The rock must not be asphalt or concrete.
Happy hunting!
